Lessons learned from Horizon 2020 - why are intellectual property assessment and management important? We observe actively the new developments in innovation-based programmes and explore in detail the differences between the new Horizon Europe replacing Horizon 2020. One of the lessons learned about the EC is the insufficient sharing and access to already funded research. To this end, several new approaches are introduced:
1. Open data and open science strategies;
2. One of the important criteria for assessing the projects submitted under Horizon Europe will concern the accessibility of research practices resulting from the project. A scientific data management plan is also required in compliance with the FAIR: Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Re-usable for European Open Science Cloud purposes;
3. Data sharing should be as open as possible, as closed as necessary.
